SAME SEX MARRIAGE
The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act received Royal Assent on 17th July 2013.
From 29th March 2014, same sex couples will be able to marry in England and Wales. This means that notices of intention to marry can be taken from 13th March 2014 at Registration Offices throughout the country. This is to allow for the period of 16 waiting days prior to any ceremony taking place.
Any same sex couples who may have already booked their Civil Partnership in Suffolk are able to change their booking to be that of Same Sex Marriage, should they wish to do so. If you have already given a formal Notice of your intention to form a Civil Partnership, then fresh notices would need to be given. Please contact your local Registration Office for further details.
We have no further information available at present for the conversion of Civil Partnerships to Marriage. The Government anticipates this will be avialable by the end of 2014.
