We offer a free quick reference enquiry service. Staff are able to undertake brief searches in catalogues and indexes – taking less than 5 minutes. More detailed enquiries are dealt with under the research service.
Free searchroom service
If you have ancestors that come from Suffolk or you wish to research something in or about Suffolk itself, why not come and visit us? Our trained and knowledgeable staff are on hand to advise both beginners and experts on using the records, so ask them to help you. Anyone can view the archives; we have some of the more popular records - like the parish registers, census returns and newspapers - on microfilm or microfiche to make it easier for you to use them and to save wear and tear on the originals

If you're investigating anything to do with Suffolk and live many miles away, or simply don't have enough time to do the research yourself, we can find out the information for you. Just tell us what you need.

Record Offices and other institutions are designed to provide the optimum conditions for the preservation of archives, but private individuals can also ensure survival of their archives if certain general principles are followed.
