Collections

We are also responsible for some unique collections including the following:

  • The Oral History (PDF 47Kb) collection.
  • The Cullum library at Bury St Edmunds Record Office.
  • The Benjamin Britten collection at Lowestoft Record Office.
  • The Racing Collection at Newmarket library
  • The Seckford Collection at Woodbridge library

Newspapers and Periodicals

We provide access to a large number of historical Suffolk newspapers as well as more recent titles and editions.

The more frequently used local titles are mostly available on microfilm, and articles can be printed from our microfilm reader printer, for a small charge,  for personal use.

To check full availability in Suffolk and elsewhere in the East Midlands we recommend using the Newsplan Database (external website)

We also hold large back runs of local interest magazines and journals which are listed in booklet format with their locations. Copies of this booklet may be consulted at any of our branches and staff will be pleased to assist with enquiries.

If you would like to make a suggestion for a title of a local book, that we do not already have, we would be pleased to hear from you, please email details to Ruth Silburn at Lowestoft Record Office.

Many of our local studies books are catalogued on the Suffolk library catalogue.
