The Protection (Fire Safety) Department

The Protection (Fire Safety) Department is dedicated to the statutory provision of fire safety in all premises other than single private dwellings.

The Department is led by one Area Commander who has responsibility for the Protection and Prevention (domestic fire safety) Departments within Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service.

The Protection Department is managed by one Group Commander.  There are three offices within the county, located in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and Lowestoft. Each office is managed by a Station Commander, responsible for a team of dedicated inspecting officers and building regulation officers who deal with all Protection issues throughout the county.

There is also a Technical and Enforcement Department, managed by a Station Commander, responsible for producing policies, providing technical and legal advice and conducting investigations when necessary.
