Third progress report on Upper Orwell Crossings ground investigations

Published

Off-shore ground investigation works for the Upper Orwell Crossings projects have been completed.

The works on the bed of the River Orwell have finished ahead of schedule. All samples taken by Fugro Geoservices Ltd, who were carrying out the investigations on behalf of Suffolk County Council, are now being subject to extensive laboratory testing, which will help inform the design of the bridges.

Meanwhile, works on land are continuing to schedule, with works this week taking place on land adjacent to the Port of Ipswich.

From Tuesday 13 March, a number of new exploratory positions will be investigated in order to assess existing carriageway construction. These investigations will be taking place at locations on Holywells Road, Cliff Road, Felaw Street, Mather Way and the Rapier Street/Wherstead Road roundabout and are due to be completed by the end of the week.

We anticipate we will be working in these locations at the following dates:

  • Tuesday 13 March – Felaw Street & Mather Way
  • Wednesday 14 March – Rapier St. Roundabout
  • Thursday 15 March – Cliff Road and Holywells Road

Please note these works are subject to change. The works will be undertaken outside of peak times in order to minimise disruption and stop/go boards will be used to manage traffic.
