Chief Executive Officer

Sue Cook is the interim head of Suffolk County Council's paid staff. She helps set the council's aims and manages its performance.

Sue Cook joined Suffolk County Council in 2013, first as Director of Children and Young People, and more recently as Director of Health, Wellbeing and Children’s Services.

In these roles Sue has been instrumental in the county council’s achievements under the Raising the Bar programme, improving school standards and educational attainment across Suffolk and also oversaw the council’s good Ofsted rating for Children’s Services.

As the Interim Chief Executive, Sue is responsible for managing the daily operations of the council on behalf of Suffolk’s 75 councillors to deliver our priorities which are:

  • inclusive growth
  • health, care and wellbeing
  • efficient and effective public services

Sue has many years’ experience across local government and the voluntary sector, and has been a senior leader in local government since 2011.

Our Chief Executive is committed to ensuring the very best for the people of Suffolk and as the organisation continues to rise to the financial challenge, ensures that local people, businesses and communities have the opportunity to influence any proposed service or policy changes.
