The post-16 travel policy statement 2018/19 was considered and agreed by Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet on Tuesday 15 May 2018.
Every year, by law Suffolk County Council is required to consult on the post-16 travel policy for young people. The policy statement is the result of the statutory consultation that Suffolk County Council is required to run every year and should not be confused with the results of the school and post-16 travel consultation for September 2019 policies.
The final policy must be published by 31 May 2018, ready for the start of the new academic year in September.
As part of this consultation no changes are being proposed to the service that young people will receive in the academic year 2018/19. However, following feedback, the policy has been reworded to provide greater clarity in some areas.
Read the Cabinet paper and further information under the item 15-05-2018, The Cabinet.

Consultation proposals for September 2018/19
Using feedback from families, young people and other users, we have updated the post-16 travel policy for 2018/2019 so it provides greater clarity in terms of:
- Readability for young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (taking into account the updated statutory guidance published by the Department for Education in October 2017).
- Section 4 - exceptional and extenuating circumstances.
There are no changes proposed to the service that young people will receive in the academic year 2018/19.
