Finding out about fostering in Suffolk

Today in Suffolk we have over 700 children in care, unfortunately there are simply not enough foster carers in Suffolk for all the children and young people who need them.

By becoming a carer for Suffolk County Council you could make a positive difference to the lives of a local child and their family.

Suffolk Fostering Service is the biggest in the county but we urgently need more carers.

Foster carers provide a stable family home to help children to develop and succeed.

What is fostering?

Fostering is family care for children and young people who cannot live with their own families for various reasons.

Fostered children may stay in touch with their own family and return to live with them. However, some need foster care for longer.

Suffolk Fostering Service Mission Statement

Suffolk County Council Fostering Service aims to provide a high quality, safe, flexible family placement service. The Fostering Service has a range of family placement options throughout Suffolk to meet the diverse range of needs presented by children who are unable to live with their families.

"Children and young people who are placed in foster care should experience it positively. A young person’s experience in foster care should contribute to their overall sense of well being. Suffolk County Council’s Fostering Service will work with our foster carers and the children in our care to help them achieve their full potential in a nurturing stable environment." Sue Lowndes, Head of Fostering
