Better Broadband For Suffolk

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Better Broadband for Suffolk Campaign by registering their demand throughout 2012.  We received over 14,000 responses and have been overwhelmed with the support shown. 

We are delighted that we have now signed a contract with BT under the governments Broadband Delivery UK scheme for the organisations to work together to revolutionise through provision of a fibre network by BT.  In the coming weeks, news will be made available below.

Roadshow

The Suffolk Better Broadband Programme are visiting an initial three locations across Suffolk.  This will include demonstrations of how broadband is delivered and the difference it might make for you.  For dates and locations, view the flyer below.

As explained in the consultation document, our intervention area for basic and next generation broadband services were defined as below.  These maps demonstrate where public funding can be used, however they may be revised for accuracy before a contract is awarded.

Better business

Suffolk is home to over 25,000 businesses. With many more micro-businesses we have a successful track record of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. Suffolk business, including some of the UKs leading financial services, biotechnology, tourism and high value food and drink producers need better broadband if they are to continue to be at the forefront of the nation's economy.

Better healthcare

Imagine being able to receive most of your primary healthcare services delivered to you in your home, avoiding the need for routine trips to the hospital, clinic or your GP. Better broadband would enable online monitoring of your health, online diagnosis of medical conditions via online consultation and online supervision of drug administration. As well as being more convenient for you, the delivery of better healthcare online would help to improve the services delivered by the NHS at greatly reduced costs.

Better education

Suffolk is the county of opportunity. Our schools and colleges need better broadband if they are to continue to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Access to faster, more reliable services will enable our young people to reach their potential. Research shows that giving a child access to the internet via broadband results in an increase in GCSE attainment.

Better entertainment

Suffolk is home to 750,000 people. They need better broadband if families living in our county are to enjoy the benefits of the growing range of rich video-based entertainment services streamed over the Internet into the home.

Better society

Suffolk's people, young and old, want to play their part in the exciting new world that better broadband would bring. Whether it is now with social networking and linking in with business or looking at tomorrow with voting on line or being part of the big society, faster and more reliable broadband will ensure our citizens can play their part in the future of society.
