Skip licence

You must have a licence to put a skip on a public road, pavement or verge.

Suffolk County Council will be increasing their licence fees from 1 October 2019.

Only qualified skip companies can apply for a skip licence.

The cost of a skip licence is £25.

You:

  • may need to provide signing and lighting on site under the conditions of the licence
  • do not need a licence to put a skip on private land
  • should take care when lifting a skip onto and off of property as you will be liable for any damage to the road or pavement

Your application may be rejected if the proposed site is considered to be potentially dangerous to the public.

Fees from 1 October 2019

Suffolk County Council have recently reviewed the licence fees in conjunction with neighbouring authorities and the administrative cost which Suffolk County Council incurs as a result of processing, monitoring and inspecting activities of licences on the public highway.

Therefore, with effect from 1 October 2019, licence fees will be increasing. The increased fees will be published in due course.
