Skip licence

You must have a licence to put a skip on a public road, pavement or verge.

Apply for a skip licence

Only qualified skip companies can apply for a skip licence.

You do not need a licence to put a skip on private land.

The cost of a skip licence is £70.

Suffolk County Council licence fees increased from 1 October 2019. The revised fee amounts are in the application forms. Make sure you read through the application form before you apply for a licence.

If you are using a skip licence, you:

  • may need to provide signing and lighting on-site under the conditions of the licence
  • should take care when lifting a skip onto and off of the property as you will be liable for any damage to the road or pavement

Your application may be rejected if the proposed site is considered to be potentially dangerous to the public.
