The aim of Suffolk County
Council's Green Travel Plan is to persuade our people to use
sustainable transport whenever possible for both business and
private purposes. The reduction in the amount of car miles
undertaken will be achieved by promoting a range of initiatives as
follows.
Promoting alternative transport to work by:
- providing more facilities at work for walkers and cyclists e.g.
lockers, secure cycle parking, showers and changing facilities;
and
- providing subsidies for public transport and publicising
available services.
Minimising the environmental impacts (emissions) of car usage
by:
- using more sustainable vehicles;
- providing low interest loans to help staff buy newer, more fuel
efficient vehicles; and
- Promoting our car-share database
www.SuffolkCarShare.com.
Other initiatives:
- a new cycling payment of £2 per day for council
journeys.
- defensive driver training programme for all fleet and lease
vehicle drivers.
- new pool cycles in Bury St. Edmunds.
In addition better monitoring regimes will be established in order
to monitor mileage and associated CO2 emissions.
