A travel plan (sometimes referred to as a green travel plan) is
a package of measures designed to influence the travel behaviour of
businesses, schools and residential estates through promoting
sustainable travel. The general aim is to reduce the negative
effects of traffic by encouraging alternatives to single-occupancy
car-use.
Sustainable travel includes walking, cycling, using public
transport, car sharing, using pool cars and bikes, and using
vehicles that minimise carbon emissions, such as electric, LPG, bio
diesel and hybrid cars.
Suffolk County Council is now working with businesses, schools
and developers by promoting sustainable travel through travel
planning. The Travel Plan team is based at Endeavour House
and are responsible for workplace and residential travel plans, and
are able to give advice and support on their production and
implementation.
