Providing information about traffic counts undertaken by
Suffolk County Council.
Suffolk County Council undertakes a programme of traffic counts
using electronic equipment on selected Suffolk roads.
The data is used for:
- assisting in planning traffic management improvements;
- commenting on the impact of new development;
- monitoring overall traffic growth; and
- planning accident remedial schemes.
We produce an annual report which sets out details of all the
count sites and annual average traffic flows.
A Suffolk resident can request a single count figure at no
charge. They need to provide the road number so we can determine
the nearest count site available. Such requests will be answered in
three days.
Requests for large amounts of data or by commercial companies,
consultants etc are charged at a rate of £30 plus £10 per site plus
VAT for up to 30 minutes work or £50 plus £10 per site plus VAT per
hour. You are advised to request a quote for larger volumes of data
and you will be advised of the response time.
The latest data from the county's annual monitoring report show a
very slight decrease in the 7 day average flow across all Suffolk's
roads. The only road type to have any significant increase in
traffic is the trunk roads (A11 &A14) - the A14 carried in
excess of 40,000 vehicles per day with the Orwell Bridge peaking at
approximately 61,400 vehicles per day. The average percentage HDV
(heavy duty vehicle) on Suffolk’s roads was 8.6% while on trunk
roads the average percentage HDV was 23.4%. There has also been a
significant increase in the number of cyclists recorded- up 6.4% on
2005.
