Tourist Destination Brown Signs

Suffolk County Council can supplement the information that is provided on the general directional traffic signs in the county to assist visitors by directing them to a tourist attaction by the most suitable route. For trunk roads please contact www.highways.gov.uk.

Tourist attractions can apply to Suffolk County Council by completing the application form and sending a non-refundable assessment fee, to see if they qualify for tourist destination "brown" signs.
 

Examples of types of attractions:


historical buildings or sites
wildlife parks
theme parks

Examples of facilities:


camping and/or caravan sites
cycle hire
restaurants, hotels, guesthouses.


If the application is accepted, Suffolk County Council will provide the applicant with a quotation for the supply, erection and maintenance of tourist "brown" signs for a four year period under the agreed terms and conditions.

Signing will only be provided where it is considered necessary to supplement general direction signing for the purpose of guiding motorists to the tourist destination during the latter stages of a journey. Signing will not be provided merely for advertisement purposes, see our Tourist Signing Policy for guidelines.
