Maintaining traffic signs.
Traffic signs on public roads are maintained by Suffolk County
Council, with the following exceptions:
Street name plates are maintained by district councils and any
queries should be directed to
your
district or borough council.
The County Council maintains traffic signs to the following
standards:
Traffic signs on A and B roads
All signs will be cleaned and inspected once a year. However,
bollards and signs close to the road which are affected by passing
traffic may be cleaned more more often.
Repairs will be undertaken to keep signs legible, and to repair
signs which have been damaged and have become unsafe.
Traffic signs on other roads
Signs will be cleaned only where they have become illegible.
Priority will be given to regulatory and warning signs.
Repairs will be undertaken to keep signs legible, and to repair
signs which have been damaged and have become unsafe. Within
available resources.
Damaged or defective road signs that could present a hazard
including exposed wiring and overhead cables and wires will be made
safe within 24 hours.
A missing, dangerous or misleading mandatory sign, bollard or
traffic signal will be rectified within 24 hours.
Higher response standards may be applied in sensitive locations
such as those near schools, shopping centres, hospitals, bus stops,
dangerous bends and accommodation for the elderly.
