Potholes occur where an area of the road surface has broken up
and fallen out. Suffolk County Council repair potholes and
other defects, with the following exceptions:
Trunk roads are managed by Atkins on behalf of the
Highways Agency. Any
questions regarding these roads should be directed to W S
Atkins rather than Suffolk County Council.
Potholes in the following towns should be directed to:
Maintaining the roads includes repairing potholes and other
defects.
On A class and other busy roads:
- potholes which are bigger than 300mm (12 inches) wide,
300mm (12 inches) long and 50mm (2 inches) deep (eg
about the size of a large dinner plate) will be repaired or coned
off within 24 hours of the pothole being reported; and
- smaller potholes will normally be repaired within 2
weeks.
On minor roads:
- potholes bigger than 600mm (24 inches) wide, 600mm (24
inches) long and 100mm (4 inches) deep (eg about the size of a
dustbin lid) will be repaired or coned off within 24
hours;
- potholes which are bigger than 300mm (12 inches) wide, 300mm
(12 inches) long and 50mm (2 inches) deep will be repaired
within 2 weeks; and
- smaller potholes will normally be repaired within 8
weeks.
To be repaired within 24 hours, potholes should be reported as
an emergency.
