Processing applications
and issuing licences to allow a skip to be put on the road.
Putting a skip on the road is restricted by legislation.
Suffolk County Council deals with applications for licences but
from skip companies only. If you hire a skip, the amount you
pay the skip hire company will depend on the size of the skip and
the hire period.
If the skip has to be placed on the road, any specific conditions
will be agreed between the skip company and the county
council.
The current rate for a licence is £25.00. The skip company may pass
this cost on to you by charging a higher rental rate.
There is no licence needed if the skip is on your own property.
However, you may be liable for any damage done to the road in
lifting a skip on to or off your property.
You should make sure that the skip company takes appropriate steps,
such as load spreading under the steel wheels, to prevent damage to
the road or pavement.
