The Regional Transport Forum was established in 2005 to:
provide the principal forum to enable discussion between local
authority transport portfolio holders, regional agencies and other
key transport bodies;
encourage opportunities for the exchange of information on best
practice between county/unitary transport authorities; and
advise the Regional Assembly’s Regional Planning Panel on transport
matters, in particular:
- on the identification of regional transport priorities;
- on issues relating to strategic road and rail routes;
- on wider inter-regional transport issues such as those relating
to London, the wider South East and the East Midlands;
- on transport issues associated with ports and airports within
the region.
Regional agencies and other key transport bodies involved in the
Forum include Department for Transport Rail, East of England
Development Agency, East of England Regional Assembly, Government
Office for the East of England, Highways Agency and Network
Rail.
Hertfordshire County Council initially chaired and hosted the
Forum. At the meeting on 12 October last year the Forum agreed
that Suffolk County Council would chair and act as secretariat to
the Forum from April 2007 for a period of two years. The first
meeting held in Suffolk under the chairmanship of County Councillor
Guy McGregor took place on the 15 June.
Further Forum meetings planned this year will be held in Bury St
Edmunds.
