Frequently asked questions

How do I use the park and ride?

There are marked family and disabled parking spaces with wider bays, near the terminal buildings.

Find a car parking space and park your car or cycle free of charge (cycle rack behind building at London Road, Cycle Lockers beside building at Bury Road and Martlesham). Then go to buy a ticket from the automatic machine at the terminal building.

The terminal building houses a heated waiting area, information and toilets/baby change facilities. The site and buses are fully accessible.

What if I return late or apart from a group?

If you need to return to the site alone after going in to town as part of a group, a single ticket can be purchased from the bus driver.
Park and Ride users who need to be in town until after the last bus has left can still get back to the terminals at no extra charge by showing their Park and Ride ticket when using the following services:

London Road - Ipswich Buses service 13 from Tower Ramparts bus station at 05 and 35 minutes past the hour until 2305. This goes to the Tesco store adjacent to the site.
Bury Road - Ipswich Buses service 8 from Tower Ramparts bus station at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour until 2225, with a final departure at 2300. This goes to the Asda store opposite the site.

As from Monday 4th June 2007, passengers holding tickets for Martlesham Park & Ride will be able use their ticket on Services 62A and 62B for return travel back to Martlesham after the normal finishing time of the park and ride service.

On Mondays to Saturdays, the last journey to Martlesham P&R is at 1907 so park and ride ticket holders will be able to use Services 62A and 62B from 1955 onwards.

Are the buses fully accessible?

All buses used as standard on Ipswich Park and Ride services are built to the latest super-low floor standards and to the requirements of disability discrimination legislation. This means they all feature step-free entrances that can be lowered to kerb height, fold out ramps, dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and priority seating for the mobility impaired. Please note that the spaces are legally intended for wheelchair users - we are more than happy to carry pushchairs/buggies in this space but are required by law to give priority to wheelchairs.

Are wheelchairs and shopping trolleys available?

If you find getting around town a struggle, we have wheelchairs and shopping trolleys available for loan at the terminal buildings. Simply leave a £10 deposit with the staff at the help point (this will be returned when you bring the trolley or chair back) and enjoy a stress free day in Ipswich. The stop at the Old Cattle Market (outside Pals Bar) is also handy for the Ipswich shopmobility centre. They have a range of facilities to help improve your experience of the town.

Can I use my concessionary fare pass on Park and Ride?

As with all other bus services in the county, the Suffolk Saver concessionary fare pass is valid on Ipswich Park and Ride. Simply show your pass to the driver on the bus. All we ask is that everyone travelling together on the ticket is a valid pass holder - we are not able to offer free travel to people who are not entitled to it.
