A Firefighter's Role

The role of the modern Fire & Rescue Service is constantly changing to meet the needs of the community.

Everyone has an image of the fire and rescue service fighting fires – in fact, that’s just a small part of our work. As the title suggests, we truly are a multi role Fire and Rescue Service.

PREVENTING

We conduct visits to Fire Stations, Schools, Colleges, Youth Groups and Adult Groups to actively engage all corners of our diverse community in order to promote Fire Safety awareness and road safety in an attempt to make Suffolk the safest county to live in. We have multi - agency enforcement prevention joint inspections.

PROTECTING

We have a Risk Critical training programme in place and Active Incident Monitoring too. We have contingency plans for Avian/Pandemic Influenza. We ensure that the people of Suffolk, whether inhabitants or visiting, get the best possible protection from SF&RS.

RESPONDING

We respond to incidents involving Fires, Road Traffic Collisions, Chemical leaks, Rail, Air and Marine transport incidents, Floods, Terrorist incidents, rescues of trapped people and animals.  We save life, protect property and render humanitarian assistance when called upon.
