These personnel are responsible for receiving emergency calls
and mobilising our fire appliances. Control room personnel are
essential to the work of the Brigade.
Control staff are part of our uniformed service and are based in
Ipswich. They work 12 hour shifts (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off).
Job share is available to people who are qualified operators (after
2 years' service). The operators' work is complex and requires
excellent IT skills. Full training is given to new personnel.
Salaries start at £19,851. Control staff are eligible to
join the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Vacancies in the control room are advertised in the local paper
and on the Suffolk County Council web site.
When we do advertise we would particularly like to hear from
people from ethnic minorities who are under-represented in the
control room. In addition we would welcome applications from people
with disabilities for whom we are willing to make reasonable
adaptations to the work place.
