Community Safety Plan

The County of Suffolk has 192 electoral wards. Last year 122 fires (over a quarter of the total number of dwelling fires) occurred in 20 of these wards (reduced from 128 in the previous year).

Operational crews will be actively involved in their allocated wards promoting and participating in Community Fire Safety through:

  • arranging for Community Advice trailer (CAT), to visit their area;
  • carrying out arson prevention inspections;
  • collecting information on smoke detector ownership and fitting detectors where appropriate;
  • fully supporting the teacher resource pack with visits to schools and stations;
  • Juvenile Firesetters Scheme;
  • promotion of Home Office campaigns, ie fireworks and fire safety week;
  • talking to local groups, WI, Scouts, youth groups, Neighbourhood Watch; and
  • visiting schools in their area.
