Statistics from Children and Young
People's Services suggest that young people in school year 5 report
the highest number of racist incidents in Suffolk schools. The RHI,
with partner agencies, have developed a project targeting this age
group to address the issues of prejudice and stereotypes through
puppetry. These events help break down inhibitions and assist young
people to learn about diversity, accept individual differences and
feel positive about themselves. This project is delivered by
partners within Children and Young People's Services. Please
contact Derek Merrill for details.
What does the case officer do?
Our racial harassment Case Officer supports and advocates for
victims and their families. This also includes young people. The
Case Officers role is to ensure services for individuals and
families is coordinated. Ultimately the role of the Case Officer is
to support individuals and to work towards putting an end to the
harassment. Often racial harassment cannot be dealt with in
isolation, instead it requires a joined up approach in order to
tackle the causes.
