Domestic violence

What is domestic violence?

Domestic violence is ‘any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are, or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexual orientation’. Family members includes mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, and grandparents, whether directly related, in-laws or stepfamily.

Help and information available

As part of the Community Safety Unit, Suffolk County Council employs a Domestic Violence Co-ordinator to increase the safety of victims and their families, and hold abusers accountable for their behaviour. We have local multi-agency groups or forums in each borough/district area, and work in partnership with various voluntary, statutory and private sector agencies to deliver effective services and initiatives.

For more information about domestic violence and abuse issues, initiatives in your area or for leaflets, posters and volunteering opportunities please contact Marianne Fellowes, County Domestic Violence Co-ordinator.
