Key purpose
The council owns and occupies property as a resource to enable
services to be delivered effectively, and to make a contribution to
the medium term commitments set out in
A Better Way for Suffolk.
Property can contribute by:
- Enabling the delivery of services which meet people’s needs and
expectations
This is the primary reason for the council holding property.
Property management aims to provide sites and buildings which are
in the right location, suitable and sufficient for its purpose, and
well-maintained.
Other corporate goals for property are:
- Supporting the council’s policies and initiatives
- Promoting schemes for working in partnership
- Increasing the financial resources of the council
Roles and responsibilities
Property Services has the responsibility
for:
- Managing, reviewing and improving the portfolio of property
assets used by the county council; and
- providing and commissioning a range of technical and
professional property support services.
The service is organised to ensure that these activities
are integrated as much as possible to offer best practice in public
sector property management.
Main activities
- Carry out strategic management and corporate reviews of
property
- Set policies and standards that safeguard the council's
interests in property and maintain core property information

We will make the most of all the council's property assets in
order to realise the vision and values of the council: to work with
local people and in partnership with other organisations to improve
the quality of life of the people of Suffolk, now and for the
future.
