Suffolk Structure Plan 2001: Direction by the Secretary
of State under Paragraph 1(3) of Schedule 8 to the Planning and
Compulsory Purchase Act 2004
On 27th September 2007, under the provisions of the Planning and
Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the Suffolk Structure Plan 2001 as a
whole ceased to form part of the Development Plan for
Suffolk. However, under the terms of this Direction, 13
Structure Plan policies are deemed to be "saved" and to continue to
form part of the Development Plan for Suffolk until such time as
their subject matter is satisfactorily addressed by adopted
policies in the East of England Plan issued by the Secretary of
State, or new-style Local Development Frameworks prepared by
District or Borough Councils. Copies of the Secretary of
State's Direction, a covering explanatory letter issued by the
Government Office for the East of England, and the 13 policies with
their supporting text, can be accessed via the following
links.
On 12 May 2008 the Secretary of State issued the East of England
Plan in final form. At the point of adoption of the EEP,
saved Structure Plan policies ENV21 and ECON7 were deemed to be
replaced by EEP policies ENV2 and E4 respectively and no longer
form part of the Development Plan for Suffolk.
