30 June 2009 - St Albans Roman Catholic High School, Ipswich to close for seven days

The leadership team and governors of St Albans Roman Catholic High School in Ipswich has decided to close the school from the end of today (29 June).  The closure is taking place following one confirmed case and a number of suspected cases of Swine Flu at the school.

The confirmed case is a member of staff with a number of pupils and staff being tested after they displayed possible symptoms.  Those members’ of staff and pupils have been sent home or stayed away as a precaution and are seeking appropriate medical advice.

Dennis McGarry, headteacher of St Albans High School said: “We have taken the decision to close the school to help allay concerns from parents and members of staff.  We hope to reduce the anxiety of everyone concerned with the school.  We have written to parents today letting them know about the closure and included some general advice about what to do if they are in anyway concerned.”

He continued: “Pupils will be able to access their work and talk to members of staff through the school’s website.”

The sixth form induction days planned from tomorrow have also had to be cancelled and will be rearranged in the near future.

The school is expected to reopen on 7 July 2009.
