Suffolk Take Over Day – 7th November 2008
The second-ever national
Takeover Day will take place on Friday 7th November 2008 when young
people will be given the chance to make decisions in businesses and
other organisations around the country. In Suffolk there are around
170,000 children and young people, and many of them will be taking
part in a variety of activities this week.

- A new Children's Centre for Felixstowe
Sea Breeze Children’s
Centre, which celebrates its official opening on Thursday, 13
November will be a community facility offering high quality
information, support and services to families with children from
the Felixstowe area.

streets, knocking on doors and offering to carry out work on your
home in time for you to show it off to all your guests on the big

laser pens seized
Just days after an Ipswich
teenager was convicted of using a green laser pointer to
temporarily blind the pilot of the Police helicopter, the county’s
trading standards officers have seized a consignment of similar
laser pointers.

Suffolk County Council’s
Adoption agency is making an appeal to anybody that may be
interested in the challenges and rewards of adopting a Suffolk
child.

open Art Activity Day 10am to 4pm, cost is £10 which includes lunch

economic summit – proud and protective
All the Suffolk councils are
combining to invite organisations from around the county to an
economic summit to look at ways to help Suffolk weather the current
economic recession.

Suffolk County Council has
been awarded nearly £900 from the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty (AONB) Sustainability Fund for an innovative project
loaning wireless Energy Monitors through its Mobile Library
Service.

cooking oil collected at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)
in Suffolk has been hailed a success.

Suffolk County Council in final discussions with potential
operators for its Household Waste Recycling
Centres
Suffolk County Council has
announced that it is in discussions with two companies to operate
and improve its Household Waste Recycling Centres from next
year.
18 November 2008 - Joint Scrutiny meeting between Suffolk County
Council and Waveney District Council on Highway Liaison Processes
in Suffolk
At its meeting on 8
September 2008, Suffolk County Council Roads and Transport Scrutiny
Committee agreed to consider the processes in place to manage works
taking place on the highway and in particular, through a Joint
Scrutiny with Waveney District Council, to use the recent and
on-going road closures at A12 Bascule Bridge as an example to
investigate.

2008 - Kombat UK fined £20,000 for selling unsafe stab
vests
Kombat UK have today been
fined £20,000 and forced to pay £3,000 costs after Suffolk Trading
Standards purchased stab vests from the company’s website which
were found to be unsafe and falsely described.

Residents rewarded for recycling efforts with best rate
ever!
Local authorities are today
thanking residents for their tremendous efforts in bringing
Suffolk’s recycling and composting rate to above 50% for the first
time.

Suffolk showcases its services
A showcase for Suffolk’s
adults and communities is set to take place later this week (20th
November) at Endeavour House in Ipswich between 11am and
3pm.

In addition to the wide
range of items you can already recycle, Suffolk County Council is
keen to promote recycling facilities for paper-based food and drink
cartons, which can now be found at all of the 18 Household Waste
Recycling Centres across the county

Suffolk County Council’s
Children, Schools and Young People’s Services Scrutiny Committee
will be looking at a report on how the council is managing the
current budget while maintaining and improving front-line child
protection work, at its meeting next Monday (24 Nov

Thurston
Jigsaw Children’s centre
opens its doors on Tuesday for local families. It will be a
community facility offering high quality information, support and
services to families in the area.

2008 - Conference discusses plans to help the Gypsy and Traveller
communities in Suffolk
Representatives from
Suffolk’s Gypsy and Traveller communities will be meeting policy
makers and advisers from across the county at a one-day conference
next week.

No profit in illegal cigarette sales
Businesses across Suffolk
are today being warned that Suffolk Trading Standards will not
tolerate the sale of cigarettes to those under the age of 18. Any
retailer caught doing so may face fines of up to
£2,500.

Government today announced the second year of the current
three-year settlement for local government covering 2008/9, 2009/10
and 2010/11.

At a celebration event on
Wednesday night at Endeavour House in Ipswich, a number of young
people who are looked after by the county council were applauded
for successfully completing their compulsory schooling this
summer.

Suffolk today reassured residents that they should continue to
recycle and compost as much as possible despite some national media
reports that other authorities across the country are having to
rethink their collection systems in light of the worsening markets
for recyclate.
