Wednesday 30 November - Proposed strike action

Many public sector unions are planning to take strike action on Wednesday 30 November, with some still in the process of balloting their members.

This action is in response to the Government’s proposed pension reforms, which are a result of a report by the independent Public Service Pensions Commission produced earlier this year.

While this is a dispute between trade unions and national government, our role is to work with local councils and organisations to keep you safe and maintain essential services.

Suffolk County Council offices will open for business as usual on 30 November. We anticipate that our services will run as normal, with the exception of any services listed below.

Please keep checking this page, where we will bring you the latest updates, information and advice.

Schools

Suffolk Resilience Forum is advising parents and carers to make alternative childcare arrangements on 30 November as strike action may lead to a number of Suffolk schools closing.

Suffolk Libraries

The majority of libraries will open as usual, however some regular activities and events may be subject to change. See the latest information.

Other services

The following services have indicated that they will be closed on 30 November.

  • Mildenhall Customer Resource Unit
  • Lowestoft Record Office

Which unions are taking strike action?

A number of unions have balloted their members and will be taking strike action on 30 November.  This includes unions with membership in the teaching, health and public worker sectors, but none in the fire service at the present time. Contingency plans are in place to keep services running.
