The National Olympic Committee of Rwanda has chosen Bury St Edmunds as their training base for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In a letter to Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre, one of Suffolk's 11 accredited pre-games training camp venues, Mr Beraho Ignace, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Rwanda said "It is with great pleasure that I announce the Rwanda Olympic Committee and Rwanda Paralympic Committee have endorsed Bury St Edmunds as our hosts for the London 2012 Pre-Games training program".

He continued "the Rwanda teams for both Games see this as a brilliant opportunity to create meaningful community driven programs, long term educational links and in turn hope that the persons of Bury St Edmunds and surrounding areas can adopt Rwanda as their second team for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games"

In conclusion Mr Ignace said "we are truly excited with your vision and ideas.  We hope that by choosing Bury St Edmunds it will be a wonderful event to be remembered and a lasting legacy for many years after".

The news that Bury St Edmunds is to be used as a pre-games training camp venue comes hot on the heels of Waveney and Pipers Vale Gymnastic Clubs being used as training bases by Canada, Great Britain and Brazil prior to the World Gymnastics Championships which are currently taking place at the O2 arena in London.

Rwanda join Mozambique (Cambridge) and the British Virgin Islands (Hertfordshire) by committing to train in the East of England in the run up to the London 2012 Games.
