Dive in for the British Gas Great East Swim 2012
Swimmers should get ready to dive in for the British Gas Great
East Swim 2012, as online entries are now open.
The Great East Swim will take place at Alton Water Park on
Saturday 16 June and participants can sign up for either the
half-mile, 1 mile or 2 mile courses.
The event isn’t just for experienced or elite swimmers, it
really is for swimmers of all abilities and it’s the ideal event to
experience outdoor swimming in all its splashing glory.
The half-mile course is perfect for those either daunted by a
mile or for those aged 12-16 years old and the 2 mile course is
perfect for those who fancy challenging themselves to go that
little bit further.
Swimmers set off in waves of approximately 300 every half an
hour, cheered on by family and friends.
Expert kayakers and safety boats are on hand and the advanced
safety system also lets the organisers know exactly who is in the
water at all times.
Team Challenge
There’s also an opportunity to enter a team of four into the
event, which proves very popular for work colleagues, families and
friends to train together, motivate each other and build team
spirit. Teams need to consist of four people and can be all male,
all female or mixed (two male/two female). Each person in the team
will swim the one mile course and you can choose to swim together
or at different times in the day. Prizes will be presented to the
first team in each category with the fastest average finish time
over the one mile course.
Other events will also take place on the day, making it a real
fun day out for all the family.

first come, first served basis.
