Ordering copies of images and documents from the Suffolk Record Office


Please complete the appropriate form and send it to the relevant branch of the Suffolk Record Office.  Payment by credit card can be made by downloading the credit card form and posting or faxing it to the correct branch.  

Copies of items including documents, photographs and maps can be ordered for private study, non-commercial research and educational purposes.  If you wish to use any items for exhibitions, displays, websites or other publications, or have any queries about copyright or ordering copies, please contact the relevant branch of the Suffolk Record Office for further discussion. 


If you are not sure whether the item is in copyright please use form 11 (PDF, 87Kb) for an electronic copy or form 12 (PDF, 87Kb) for a printed copy.

If the item is out of copyright please use form 2 (PDF, 90Kb) for published material and form 3 (PDF, 89Kb) for unpublished material.

If the item is in copyright and is an artistic work, including maps or photographs, please use form 11 (PDF, 87Kb) for an electronic copy and  form 12 (PDF, 87Kb) for a printed copy.  You will need to tick the 'research / private study' box in section C.

Bowen map -  copies of Emanuel Bowen's map of Suffolk, dated 1759, are available and may be purchased by printing off and completing the order form (PDF 110Kb).

Map pack - this pack has been compiled to assist researchers. It contains five diagrammatic maps of Suffolk ecclesiastical and administrative areas.  Copies may be purchased by printing off and completing the order form (PDF 110Kb).

The contents are:

  • Deaneries within the Archdeaconries of Sudbury and Suffolk 1836.
  • Civil registration districts of Suffolk 1836.
  • Poor law unions and incorporations of Suffolk 1885.

Have you ever wondered about the parish where your ancestors lived?

The contents are:

Early Ordnance Survey maps (will give you an overview of the parish and its surroundings).

  • County directories from 1844, 1874 and 1900 (will list some of the occupants of the village. This can be especially useful if your ancestors ran commercial premises such as the local pub or blacksmith's forge).
  • Pocket histories (will supply background information on the parish including the church, manor and school).
  • Copy photographs.

Most Suffolk parishes can be supplied upon request. TOWN PACKS for Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft are now available.

The parishes are separated into 3 categories, as detailed below:

Category 1: Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich or Lowestoft
Category 2: Aldeburgh, Beccles, Blythburgh, Brandon, Bungay, Clare, Debenham, Dunwich, East Bergholt, Eye, Felixstowe, Framlingham, Glemsford, Hadleigh, Halesworth, Haughley, Haverhill, Ixworth, Lakenheath, Lavenham, Leiston cum Sizewell, Long Melford, Mendlesham, Mildenhall, Needham Market, Newmarket, Orford, Saxmundham, Southwold, Stradbroke, Stowmarket, Sudbury, Wickham Market or Woodbridge.

Fruit images - the collection that these high-quality prints were taken from, is a bequest of interest as a typical 'family library' of the nineteenth century gentleman, George Milner-Gibson-Cullum FSA (1857-1921). It consists of 4,000 volumes on travel, topography, social and political sciences, natural history, philosophy and genealogy covering the 17th - 20th centuries:

Trery images - Henry Charles Trery was a specialist animal painter, making these Lowestoft sketches unusual subjects.  The six lithographs reproduced have been selected from nine plates originally published in a volume entitled: Sketches in Lowestoft by H C Trery, inscribed to Samuel Morton Peto Esquire M.P. of Somerleyton Hall, Suffolk.  These sketches in Lowestoft are with permission respectfully dedicated by his obedient servant,  H Trery.  The volume was published on July 5th 1852.
