Searches may be made on a
variety of subjects including the history of a family, a property,
or an organisation or area. The searches are carried out by
our experienced staff who are completely familiar with
the extensive holdings of archives, printed material and microform
held in our three branches. If you are a more experienced
searcher you may find it useful to switch to our research service
to support some difficult stage in your own
investigation.
The
charge covers the research done and the reporting of
results. Payment is required in advance and if the research
is likely to take longer than expected we will advise you
first. It is not possible to guarantee positive results every
time and if success looks remote we will discuss this with
you. This service is extremely popular so from time to
time a delay of four weeks may occur.
The Transcription & Translation service can
help if you are having trouble reading or understanding a difficult
document. In some cases you may also require a translation,
the most requested of which is from Latin to English. The
charge is per hour and payment is required in
advance.
How do I use the research service? Please fill
out the
application form (PDF 71Kb) and send it to the appropriate
branch along with your payment. If the enquiry is more
complex you may find it easier to convey your information in
the form of a draft family tree. Please be concise in specifying
the work to be undertaken.
