Explorer Bartholomew Gosnold.
'America 400' celebrations in the Abbey
Gardens
On Sunday 6 May 2007 there was a celebration of Bury St
Edmunds'connections with the USA on the occasion of the 400th
Anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Virginia. The
Heritage Marquee hosted a historical display by the Suffolk Record
Office and staff were available to answer questions about
Bartholomew Gosnold and his local links. There was also the
chance for children to participate in craft activities, including
making puppet alligators and designing a coat of arms. Other
events in the Abbey Gardens included an Amazing Wild West Show,
Punch and Judy, Craft marquee, Falconry exhibition and The Silver
Bird - 1940s dance display. The Bury Record Office was open
from 10.00am to 4.00pm to allow the public to view the Bartholomew
Gosnold exhibition.

Month - Exploring your African
roots on Saturday 14 October 2006. Throughtout 2007 there
will be events including talks and displays to mark the
bicentennary of the abolition of transatlantic slavery as well as
African History Month in October.
