We collect records from all
kinds of sources including businesses, churches and
individuals. The records consist of many different
types including accounts, diaries, photographs etc
and come in a variety of formats including tapes, digital
files, film, paper and parchment. What we collect and
preserve is based on the guidelines set out in our
archive collecting policy (PDF, 45Kb) and
local studies collecting policy (PDF, 47Kb).
Local Studies Collection The
Local Studies collections (PDF 50Kb) consists of books,
newspapers, oral history tapes, pamphlets, periodicals, press
cuttings, printed maps and sale catalogues. The
County Oral History collection (PDF 47Kb) and the
Corder Collection (PDF, 603Kb) are held at the
Ipswich Record Office. The
Cullum library collection
is held at the Bury St Edmunds Record Office and the
Benjamin Britten collection is held at
the Lowestoft Record Office. If you would like to make a

Military collection The
Suffolk Regiment archives (PDF, 79Kb) is a
comprehensive list of sources relating to
Suffolk and the 1939-1945 War (PDF, 247Kb)
and is divided into three sections: records in the
Suffolk Regiment archive; records in all other archive collections;
a selection of books from the Local Studies collection. You
can search the full catalogue of this collection at
Access to Archives. Also the
Suffolk Great War
Roll of Honour, compiled in 1930, is on display at
Endeavour House, Russell Road, Ipswich. The virtual copy allows the
Roll to be searched by person, military unit or parish of
origin.
Business archives The
business archives document (PDF, 49Kb) details the business
archives held at the three Record Office branches. All the
collections are catalogued and the catalogues from the Bury and
Ipswich offices can be accessed
from
Access to Archives.
