Old handwriting, part 1
If you are interested in finding out about palaeography, the study
of old handwriting, we can introduce you to the basic techniques
for reading local documents, written in English, from about
1600. The course looks at where to start and gives some tips
on how to read old handwriting, including a practical session and a
chance to take a copy of a document to practice on before the
second course.
The course costs £10.00 and a package of information is provided,
which includes an alphabet, tips and hints, notes about
palaeography and copies and transcripts of the documents looked at
during the course.
Old handwriting, part 2
This course introduces some of the standard phrases and formulas to
be found in many types of documents and will include a practical
session that looks at some of these documents in context.
There will also be the opportunity to look at the practice document
introduced in the first course. The course costs £10.00.
