Ask Suffolk is the Suffolk
Libraries email enquiry service. If you live or work in Suffolk, we
will do our best to answer your questions. We can't provide answers
to hypothetical questions or give opinions, but if your enquiry is
factual we will try to find the answer. All we need is your email
address and your postcode.
Help us to help you
Please give us as much context and background to your enquiry as
you can - in general terms what you need to know and why. You'd be
surprised how much this helps us to find the right answer for you.
If you've already tried to find the answer, where did you look? Did
you pick it up from a reference in a newspaper or magazine? Hear
about it on the radio or TV?
Please make sure your email address is right
It's easy to make a mistake keying in your email address. Please
double-check that it is correct – if it is entered wrongly then
obviously we can't reply, though we will keep a record of failed
mail for a couple of weeks or so.
What if I live outside Suffolk?
Ask Suffolk is limited to people who live or work in
Suffolk. We can only deal with your enquiry if there is a valid
postcode on the enquiry form. Luckily there is an alternative if
you live outside the county; try putting your question to
Enquire.
Tricky questions
There are some questions that are beyond the scope of Ask
Suffolk:
- Legal questions: we can point you in the direction of suitable
information resources but we can't offer advice
- Quiz questions: please don't send a list!
- Research: we can't enter into in-depth or very detailed
research on your behalf
- Student projects: we won't offer to write your project for you,
though we will gladly point you to relevant sources of
information.
Family history
We can help with family and local history questions but you
should be aware that any detailed research done on your behalf
carries a charge; you'll find details of these services on our
record office web pages.
Our service standards
We will aim to answer your question within two working days. If
your question can't be answered within that time we will send you a
message explaining why.
In some cases it may be more appropriate to refer you directly
to another organisation – if this is so, then we'll provide you
with full contact details.
If your question is outside the scope of Ask Suffolk we
will let you know why we are unable to help.
