Kessingland Library Youth panel

The Youth Panel was set up in July 2004 and they meet once a month. They have been very busy and have set up a Quick choice collection, written reviews, selected sound and vision items, help with displays and posters to promote reading and other activities in the library.
A new library is planned for Kessingland , so the group will be involved in selecting colour schemes and furniture.

During the Easter holidays the Youth Panel helped to decorate Kessingland Library to promote the children's activities they were holding.  This included painting the windows and making a sea creature collage.

 Hannah

I’m Hannah, I am about to turn 18. I am in my first year of a 2-year college course at Lowestoft College studying childcare in the early years. In September I plan on starting a night course in Japanese!!!

I am self-employed, as I baby-sit almost every weekend and on my one day off college during the week. My hobbies include, creative writing, anything Japanese and at the moment trips to London.

My favourite genre of book are crime and graphic novels, most people think that graphic novels are comic (which they are!!) but the art is amazing at it really brings a book to life!!!! The books that I’m reading at the moment are the CSI books.

I use the library for research material for my college studies and to get myself in someone else’s world. I joined the youth panel to be able to have my input in the books and other materials that come into the library.

 Mairi

Hi, my name is Mairi (that’s me on the left) and I’m a 17-year-old 6th former at Sir John Leman High School, studying maths, further maths, physics, art and product design.
I love eating, sleeping, sunshine, running, laughing, shopping and going out. I am quite a loud person at times, but otherwise pretty shy, especially when meeting new people.

My favourite books are the Harry Potter series and a novel called Dr Franklin’s Island by Ann Halam, although I also love the classics such as Life of Pi and Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. As well as reading fiction, I also find the library useful for research, whether school related or not. The best thing about the youth panel is getting a say in the running of things, and it’s also nice to know our work is appreciated – people often comment on our lovely displays.
