Tuesdays 10.00am - 10.30am Bookstart activity: Baby Bounce - soothing songs and gentle nursery rhymes for babies and their grown-ups followed by a short story.
Tuesdays 2.00pm - 2.30pm Bookstart activity: Tot Rock - pre-school music session followed by a short story.
Thursdays 10.30am - 11.30am Top Time - social group for older people
Sundays 11.00am-12.00pm Come and enjoy our children's craft activities
Sundays 1.00pm - 2.00pm (meets every 4 weeks) Book Club

Bookstart

Bookstart logoWe run two Bookstart activities for pre-school children every week.

Tuesdays  Baby Bounce    10.00 - 10.30am
Tuesday    Tot Rock          2.00pm - 2.30pm


Both sessions include a short storytime session for the last 10 minutes.  We leave the toys out for a while after the sessions so parents can stay for a chat while their children play.

Top Time

This weekly group, meeting on Thursdays, has a varied programme of activities for older people and carers.

Sunday activities

Come and enjoy our children's craft activities every Sunday 11.00am -12.00 midday at Newmarket Library.  Sunday activities are suitable for children of all ages unless otherwise specified.  There is also colouring available to do throughout the day.

Adult Book Club

The group meets on a Sunday between 1.00pm and 2.00pm every four weeks (although this can vary with agreement from members). The meetings are a friendly and social occasion - tea and biscuits are provided!  Please contact Nina on 01638 661216 or by email: ninabookclub@hotmail.co.uk for more information.

Nearly Teen Book Club

We are trying to establish a book club for young readers to be held once a month on a Sunday.  Our next session is on Sunday 28 December so if you enjoy reading please come along!

National Year of Reading Author Visit

National Year of Reading logo On Saturday 15 November, local author Jan Jones visited the library between 10.00am - 12.00noon to sign copies of her new publication, 'Fair Deception'.  Jan will also gave a talk to our Top Time members on Thursday 6 November.

Big Draw


Big Draw Logo As part of the celebrations for the Big Draw, Suffolk Libraries organised several special drawing events including one at Newmarket Library on Sunday 12 October when illustrator Pat Morley visited.

National Year of Reading

National Year of Reading logoAs part of Suffolk's celebration of the National Year of Reading we have had visits from the authors Michael Hardcastle in April and  Ian Whybrow in September.

July - Rhythm and Rhyme

On Tuesday 15 July we had a poetry afternoon to coincide with July's National Year of Reading theme - 'Rhythm and Rhyme'.  Year 3 and Year 4 from All Saints Primary School visited the library and listened to some funny poems being read to them by Nina, who ran the session, before performing the poems that they had composed in class to each other.

Reading Challenge

Go to Team Read Suffolk This summer children have had the opportunity to take part in this year's reading challenge ... Team Read. All they had to do was read 6 books...
