Sunday activities

The library is open every Sunday, come along and enjoy a relaxed friendly atmosphere where you can chat, listen to music, surf the net or try IT taster sessions, as well as borrow books, films, music and games. Come and enjoy our children's activities 10.30am - 12.00noon every Sunday. Top Time

A general interest, activity and social session aimed at older people and their carer's. Held every last Tuesday of the month 2.00 - 4.00pm in the meeting room next to the library. Refreshments provided.

28 October Local resident Colin Spalding gives a talk on the history of Collectable Spoons - Silver/Pewter from the Roman period – to date. Bring along your own spoon and learn some of it's history!
18 November Local Resident/Speaker, Andrew Jackson gives a talk on pub signs & the story behind them.

We would love to hear from members of the local community who may be interested in hosting some sessions on a topic they have a particular interest in such as local history, photography, yoga...  For more information or to express an interest please contact a member of staff at the library.

National Year Of Reading - Author Visit

NYR150100 Romance writer, Jan Jones visited Haverhill Library on 12 November to give a free talk.

Jan talked about her background and read a few pages from her latest book “Fair Deception”, a Regency romance.  She also talked about the sort of research required for writing her book: - old maps, for example. After answering questions, Jan sold copies of her books and signed them – a memoir of a fascinating evening!

UK Online - Get Online Day

The Big Draw

As part of the celebrations for  The Big Draw this year, Suffolk Libraries ran several Sunday drawing events including one at Haverhill.

On 19 October, writer and illustrator, Gillian McClure (pictured below) visited the library to run a workshop which was attended by eighteen people.

National Year Of Reading

September - "You are what you read" (celebrating and exploring cultural, personal and local identities)

In Conjunction with September's National Year Of Reading theme, we had a Family History Group Day on Sunday 28 September.  There were experts on hand to introduce and assist visitors in researching their family history.

African History Month

As part of October's African History Month and in conjunction with October's National Year of Reading theme "Word of Mouth" (celebrating storytelling, reading out loud, reading together and live literature), one of Britain's outstanding storyteller's, Jan Blake, visited the library on Wednesday 1 October.  Jan hosted/performed a traditional storytelling session, specialising in stories from West Africa and the Caribbean to a mature audience.


Reading Challenge

This summer children had the opportunity to take part in this year's reading challenge ... Team Read. All they had to do was read 6 books...

The presentation of certificates was on Sunday 14 September.
