Hadleigh Library Fun Day 2008

"Fantastic", "Educational" "Brilliant" - just some of the many compliments that Hadleigh Library's Family Fun Day 2008 received from children and parents alike. The theme this year was 'Recycling' and, under the approving eye of the "Recycling Family", children were busy throughout the day with treasure hunts, quizzes, and scrap modelling all linked into the core message of Reduce, Re-use, Recycle! Stewart Smyth, aged 3 years was the lucky competition prize-winner of an MP3 player for his fantastic creation of a planet-saving Super-Hero modelled entirely from recycled materials.

Other activities throughout the day included face painting, Baby Bounce toddler rhyme-time, Beatrix Potter drawing classes with local artist, Vernon Lever, and play dough modelling for the very youngest.

Adults were not left out as they were challenged to measure their carbon footprints and claim a free energy-saving light bulb in return for a pledge to become greener! Mother of two, Liz Smyth said, "It's been a great day and we've all learnt something and had fun in the process."

The Family Fun Day is not the only day when there is plenty of fun to be found in the library though as Hadleigh Library Manager, Sarah Hunt explained, "The Family Fun Day is a particularly exciting day for the library, but in fact there are children's activities available every Sunday and parents often enjoy relaxing with a paper and coffee while their children are busy. Of course we have a fabulous and regularly updated collection of books, but, as customers are discovering, libraries today offer so many more services and its lovely to see that so many families are making a visit to the library part of their routine."
