Top Time
Every Tuesday, Top Time will offer something different as
part of a full programme of activities aimed at older people and
their family carers. Apart from just being a friendly place to drop
in and have a chat, there will be a book group, theatre group,
arts and crafts, local history as well as advice and
information.
Be fit, be happy at Felixstowe Library
Last year Felixstowe Library invited anyone aged 50 or over
to come along to the library to get some ideas on how to be
fit, be happy.
There was a demonstration of chair based exercise and later a
demonstration of head massage and reflexology. A local GP was there
and visitors were also able to find out more about Suffolk
County Council's new initiative Information on Prescription by
looking online and talking to staff.
Displays showed the range of books available about healthy
eating, special diets and allergies as well as exercise plans.
Visitors were able to talk to representatives from Suffolk
Family Carers, Heart Foundation and Age Concern and look at
displays about diabetes and falls prevention.
Councillor Graham Newman, who has led the drive for Libraries to
make their contribution towards helping people become more fit and
healthy, who attended the session, said: "Libraries can help
people make a difference to their lives through sessions like
these, but more importantly through having books and materials with
ideas, advice and suggestions on moving to a healthier lifestyle.
Libraries are easily accessible, and visitors are free to browse
all the materials we have, or to ask staff for help in finding
information. I particularly welcome the involvement of our partner
organisations in making all our joint expertise and advice
available through libraries in Suffolk."
Top time book group
Russell Clarke read
Caribbean poems and talked about his home island of Nevis. At the
end of the book group one of the group joined him for a salsa
demonstration.
Suffolk County Council officially launched this new weekly
get-together.
