Suffolk County Council has been working in partnership with the
then Mid Anglia Cancer Network
and
Macmillan
Cancer Support and launched the first library cancer
information project in 2005.
Special collections chosen by health professionals in Macmillan
have been placed in libraries in Suffolk and Essex to provide
self help collections of up-to-date, accessible and credible cancer
information. Self help materials ranging from books, leaflets,
contact numbers and website addresses are available in selected
public and academic libraries in Suffolk and Essex. This
is so that patients, family members, carers and health workers
can all access information to suit their individual needs.
In Suffolk the 11 larger public libraries have

Cancer Information Centre, Ipswich Hospital
The Cancer Information Centre at Ipswich Hospital aims to
provide full information, support and advice to cancer patients,
their family and friends. The patient-friendly information booklets
and fact sheets are free on request to anyone affected by cancer.
They explain the facts clearly yet sensitively, in language that is
easy to understand. They are designed to help you and your
family/friends understand what you may be experiencing at each
stage of the cancer journey, and enable you to make informed
choices about your treatment.
