Michael Foreman

On Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18
children's author
Michael Foreman visited various venues within Suffolk.
On Tuesday Michael visited Halesworth library (photos
left and below) where he met 38 children from Edgar Sewter school
and 9 home educated children.
Michael also visited Kessingland Library, Reydon &
Southwold Children's Centre and Southwold Methodist Church Hall
where he gave a talk for adults about his early life in
Pakefield.
This was followed on Wednesday 18 June at
Lowestoft Library and
Record Office (photos below). An audience of 35 people
including 3 youngsters, enjoyed hearing Michael talk about his
childhood years in Pakefield during the war, accompanied by a
screen showing of pictures from his books - in particular War Boy,
War Game and After the War was over.
Just before his talk in Lowestoft Library's Meeting Room, Michael
Foreman had a private viewing of some of Suffolk Record Office's
archives relating to Lowestoft, including old maps and photos of
his mother's sweet shop in Pakefield. He was fascinated by these
and was thrilled by the surprise presentation of two folders of
Family History Research covering his family. He said "It's like
being given a treasure!".

Afterwards, Michael talked to members of the audience - some of
whom remembered him from the old days - and signed copies of his
books. After he'd signed a book for her, Barbara Lynch presented
him with a copy of the recently published collection of poems
Full of Life which the county's
At Home Library Service Reading Groups had produced and he
asked her to sign that for him!
Michael also visited that day
Bungay Library and
Beccles Library.
