“Our whole school (184 of us!) came to see the Pantomime
yesterday and we loved it! The children were kept entertained
the whole way through and it was wonderful to see the joy and
wonder on their faces as they watched it. The majority of the
children had never been to the theatre before and many didn't even
know what one was - one of our oldest children asked if theatre was
a posh name for cinema and could not understand how real people
could be acting out the story! This made it an unforgettable
experience for them. They talked about it non-stop on the
coaches on the way home.”
Comment made by the Deputy Head of a Primary School in
Stowmarket, after a trip to the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds to
see the Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, December
2009. |

Introduction
TAKE PART is a partnership project between the county
council arts, museum and extended schools services, and the
regularly funded arts organisations and museums in Suffolk – just
click on
Participating Organisations to see who is involved.
Together, they have produced a timetable of events and activities
for schools for the academic year 2009 to 2010. And because
it is being published before the new academic year begins, we hope
it will give teachers plenty of time and opportunity to plan school
trips and events. Please click on
School Activities to see what you could take part in.
The information is also intended for extended schools officers and
those working in the Youth Service, and has a section relating
exclusively to activities that take place outside normal school
hours. Please click on
Out of School Activities for details.
And we have split the details into Key Stages, so again we hope
that you can easily find activities and events that are suited to
your needs – but do remember that many of the participating
organisations are very happy to discuss any particular requirements
you may have, so please do give them a call.
TAKE PART is being piloted in the Stowmarket cluster area. It
will be evaluated, revised and amended in response to what teachers
tell us they need, and then hopefully rolled out across the whole
of Suffolk.
So, if you have a school trip in mind, but don’t know who to
contact, or want an activity to support classroom learning – or
just want to know what’s going on for young people in the arts and
heritage sector then please use the links to find out how you can
TAKE PART.
