Policy Change for Plasterboard

Plasterboard – Policy Change

From the 1st April 2009 licensing legislation changed, meaning that Gypsum Plasterboard is no longer permitted to be mixed with other wastes and land filled. As such we have revised the way this material is handled at the Household Waste Recycling Centres for the public for the disposal of Plasterboard.

Plasterboard can now only be accepted in limited quantities (2 bags per day as per our existing policy on Construction and Demolition waste) at the following Household Waste Recycling Centres:-

· Bury St. Edmunds HWRC , Rougham Hill Bury St. Edmunds

· Lowestoft HWRC, Hadenham Road, Lowestoft

· Foxhall HWRC, Foxhall Road Brightwell, Ipswich

No other Suffolk Household Waste Recycling Centres will accept this waste stream. In line with our current policy on dealing with waste from the fabric of the property, we are recommending that anyone with more than 2 bags of this type of waste contact a licensed contractor - details of these can be found in the yellow pages.

Most of the local skip hire contractors can arrange disposal of plasterboard.
