Protecting the rights of the public to use the road and
footpath network without interference.
At Suffolk County Council, we have a duty to protect the public
rights of passage on the road and footpath network.
Our officers are sometimes required to deal with businesses and
individuals who obstruct or otherwise interfere with the rights of
the public to use the road.
Our countryside staff have a duty to make sure that public
rights of way are:
- clearly marked;
- free from obstruction; and
- open and safe for use.
As Highway Authority, we have a duty to maintain adopted roads
to safe and serviceable standards. Staff have to protect the rights
of the public to use and enjoy such roads by making sure they are
free from:
- danger;
- encroachments;
- interference;
- nuisance; and
- obstructions.
