Suffolk County Council's Commons Registration Authority has 176
Village Greens and 224 areas of Common Land registered.
These special categories of land are currently governed by
various pieces of old legislation, the oldest of which dates back
to 1265. The Commons Bill 2005 currently running through the House
of Lords aims to reform most of the legislation government Common
Land and Village Greens, including the Commons Registration Act
1965, which provided a mechanism for registration, with the new
Bill seeking to revise the old outdated Registers to live
electronic versions.
