Waste Planning

Suffolk County Council are responsible for dealing with all waste planning matters. This includes:

  • authorising planning applications for waste management facilities and related development;
  • monitoring of sites for compliance with planning conditions;
  • preparation and implementation of planning policies to control waste planning matters; and
  • taking enforcement action against unauthorised development.

Waste Planning Policy

The new national planning system requires the replacement of the existing Waste Local Plan with a Minerals and Waste Development Framework (M&WDF). This process has commenced in Suffolk and will include a set of Waste Development Plan Documents to guide waste planning in the county for the next 15 years.

The Waste Issues and Options (Part II) Sites document represents the initial stage of consultation upon strategic waste management sites and the third stage of consultation on waste issues in general. The consultation period for this document will run from Monday 8 December until 5 pm on Friday 30 January 2009. Please visit Waste Development Framework website for more information.
