Making sure that all food supplied and sold in Suffolk is what
it claims to be and that it meets legal standards
A Food Law Enforcement Plan has been produced setting out what
work will be carried out to ensure the safety of food being bought
and sold in Suffolk -
Food Law Enforcement Plan 2006/2009.
People buy food trusting and believing that it is up to standard
and accurately described, and trading standards enforces these laws
so you can trust the food you buy in the county.
We enforce that food should not contain:
- illegal or undeclared additives;
- undeclared GM ingredients;
- or unsafe levels of natural toxins.
Suffolk County Council's trading standards officers check where
you can't. For example, we check meat products, such as sausages,
to make sure they contain the correct amount of meat. We test food
to make sure that it contains no hidden extras not listed on the
label.
